Seniors Week is upon us, again with lots of activities planned around the Newcastle Region. Our shed here at Elermore Vale Men’s Shed, are holding a BBQ for senior citizens, and it will be all hands on deck. There will be a number of organisations coming to the Community Centre to see our gardens, the mens shed and see Tai Chi and find out what it is all about. Our shed will be up and ready to receive members of the public, from all walks of life who are wanting to call in and have morning tea and a BBQ lunch with the Men’s Shed.
Our shed is always in need of new members, for projects as we call them, to help us be more productive for events like Seniors Week. Our resources are sometimes spread thin, and financial backing is not always forth coming, in these financial times. We have marked it on our calendar for the next 2 future Seniors week, which are :-
Sunday 17 March – Sunday 24 March 2013
Sunday 16 March – Sunday 23 March 2014
Here is a picture of our gardens they are rapidly being built.
I have made a point to set up an online reminder, called Memo To Me for next years event. We expect to get Seniors from many of the community support groups. The BBQ will be on between 10.00 am – 2.00 pm and all visitors are welcome to come and get something from the BBQ, not just for senior citizen’s, who will becoming along to this event.
We plan to grow many different plants in our garden, everything from roses for Mother’s Day, and Valentines day, to vegetables for our functions. We do have many men who fall into the group of those in their more mature years (100 – 50) and younger members ranging all the way down to 20 years of age.
We got caught a bit short for Seniors Week this year, but we will come through for our senior members of our community.
