Men’s Shed Metal Shop Newcastle

At the Men’s Shed metal shop we have a few different things happening, we are building wheel barrow wheels for when our blokes in the wood shed need them. One of our blokes decided to build a wind mill out of aluminium the oter day and it goes like a rocket in the high winds today. Our resident blacksmith is working on making the wheels in the Men’s Shed metal shop and other men are busy building wind chimes.

Some times we fix toys and doing all the activities, help us with any mens health issues. We are supportive of each other and mentor those that are less skilled. Our trades men for the Men’s Shed metal shop are an electrician (Adrian) who is very skilled, a boiler maker (Dave Corbett) who has done lots of welding projects for our Men’s Shed. Your truly, I am a qualified fitter and turner. These are just some of our tradesmen who are in the Men’s Shed metal shop, we heaps more tradesmen in our woodwork shed.

We have a bench grinder and a Belt Driven Pedestal Drills, a drop saw that has a grinding disc, we could do with a metal lathe and milling machine, even have a mig welder, we can squeeze some more tools in somewhere. Men are welcome to come along to our shed for a cuppa, we usually stop for morning tea and the Men’s Shed metal shop doubles as a place to have our cuppa’s. Our plans are many and our funding is small, we don’t waste a single cent when somebody decides to be one of our sponsors, we back our sponsors as much as we can.

The Men’s Shed metal shop is just one of our activities we do to help out charitable causes, fixing, repairing and being a support for each other is what we are about, this is why we are classed as a health promotion charity, we give support to men recovering from strokes and depression. We also offer support to those blokes suffering with early stage alzheimer’s and dementia and they get active in our sheds.
